Mole or nevus

Moles, sometimes called beauty marks in everyday language, are small pigmented spots that are mostly harmless. However, some types of moles (or nevi) need to be monitored to prevent them from developing into melanomas, a form of cancer.

Whether for aesthetic reasons or health concerns, it is possible to remove them. The team at Victoria Park Medispa offers solutions to remove moles, using surgical excision or laser therapy.

Moles: causes

A mole, or nevus, is a pigmented spot that can appear on the scalp, facial skin, or body skin. Its shape is most often oval, and its color can vary: the nevus can indeed be colorless, or light brown to dark brown. There are also red moles, black moles, or sometimes even bluish ones. Some moles can have a texture and volume that raise them above the skin. Others may have hairs on their surface. In reality, their formation is linked to a concentration of cells responsible for skin pigmentation, melanocytes. Moles are a natural element, often harmless, that can be present at birth or appear during childhood growth and even in adulthood. When skin is exposed to sunlight, and depending on whether it is light or dark, it may also develop moles.

It is common for nevi to evolve over their lifetime. They can change in size and color without affecting health. However, depending on their size, characteristics, or location, some moles can be seen as a complex. People who wish to remove them can have them removed by a healthcare professional at a medical-aesthetic clinic such as Victoria Park Medispa. Other moles can evolve and become melanomas, meaning they become cancerous. In this case, their appearance may seem irregular and asymmetrical, they may have larger proportions than a benign mole and measure more than 6 millimeters. It is then important to consult a healthcare professional for analysis and possibly proceed with surgical removal.

Different types of moles

Some moles are conintimate, meaning they are present at birth. Others may appear during adolescence. If the mole appears in adulthood, after the age of 30, it is recommended to have it examined to check if it is not likely to develop into cancer.

Available treatments for mole removal

At Victoria Park Medispa, two effective and definitive solutions are preferred to remove a mole deemed unsightly or potentially dangerous to health. The first solution is the surgical excision of the mole, which involves removing it surgically. This method is generally recommended when the mole needs to be analyzed, and it must be performed by a healthcare professional. This treatment, which is performed under local anesthesia, has the advantage of targeting only the mole tissue without affecting the surrounding healthy tissue.

Once the excision is performed, meaning the mole is removed, stitches may close the wound. Depending on their depth, some stitches may dissolve on their own, while others must be removed at the clinic. A smoother and clearer skin tissue eventually replaces the mole, allowing the skin to regain its homogeneity. The second, minimally invasive solution involves laser therapy. This fractional CO2 laser creates microscopic heat pits in the skin, which destroys the cells within its radius. This technique stimulates the body’s healing response; the treated skin gradually regenerates its cells.

Mole treatment at Victoria Park Medispa: advice before and after the session

To benefit from fractional laser treatment, the patient must first meet with the healthcare professional at Victoria Park Medispa. During this initial interview, information about the patient’s medical history is collected, their skin is analyzed, and the patient’s goals are determined. On the day of treatment, the patient’s skin may be coated with an anesthetic cream to make the session comfortable.

After the session, however, the patient may feel a slight burning sensation, similar to a sunburn. The skin may be red for 3 to 7 days and peel. It is then necessary to exfoliate according to the healthcare professional’s recommendations and avoid sun exposure. It takes an average of one week for the healing to occur correctly and for the new skin to replace the damaged skin. A follow-up may be scheduled with the Victoria Park Medispa professional responsible for the operation to ensure that healing is progressing under the best possible conditions. The patient is also encouraged to ask questions to the professional who treated them, whether before or after the treatment.

Mole treatment and other skin conditions at Victoria Park Medispa

There are many aesthetic solutions offered at Victoria Park Medispa to improve the appearance of your skin and regain your self-confidence. Brown spots, keratosis, or redness are among the skin conditions that can be treated in a minimally invasive way.

Forever Young BBL and BBL Hero treatments, for example, can brighten the complexion and rejuvenate the face. By targeting the melanin responsible for pigmented spots, these treatments improve skin radiance while stimulating collagen production. Redness, on the other hand, can be drastically reduced with Vbeam laser treatment, which targets dilated blood vessels under the skin.
